Books

The NCS team has developed outlines for three books, and has ideas for several more. NCS estimates writing a book to take a year from the receipt of funding. Upon completion, NCS will either place the manuscript with a major publisher or produce the book ouselves. Read more about each of these books below.

Natural Change: Bringing the Sustainability Revolution to Scale (working title)

Natural Change will describe how to implement the ideas presented in the growing number of books in the field of sustainability, including Natural Capitalism, Cradle to Cradle, and Biomimicry. Many books are arguing why the transition to sustainability is desirable, but few describe HOW to achieve it. Natural Change has been enthusiastically sought after ever since Natural Capitalism was released in 1999. It will outline a theory change focusing on the human dimensions of making sustainability happen, using user-friendly language. This book is being co-authored by Hunter Lovins with Jeff Hohensee, an environmental education expert and proven change management practitioner.

Sustainable Business Practice: A Fieldguide to Natural Capitalism
The Sustainable Business Practice: A Natural Capitalism Field Guide will present a whole-systems approach for implementing  sustainability in an organization, expanding on the ideas in Natural Capitalism and answering many practical questions. It will include:

  • best practices for each of the three Natural Capitalism principles, case stories illustrating best practices;

  • specific programs for integrating the principles with existing organizational management techniques;

  • and specific tools for assessment, implementation plan development and implementation activities.

It will provide the next level of detail for what an organization actually does on Monday morning to use the Natural Capitalism principles.

Outreach

General support for outreach and technical assistance will allow Natural Capitalism Solutions to continue to offer free services to those who could otherwise not afford them. One example of this is Hunter’s membership in the Bruntland Plus 20, an international team that is charged with redefining “sustainable development” for the United Nations. In April, Hunter will work with the team in Capri, Italy and Oslo, Norway. The result will be presented at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in New York this May. Hunter also provides technical assistance to such groups as the Denver City Green Prints Council, Boulder County Energy Task Force, the California efforts to promote renewable energy and numerous other progressive campaigns around the country. Staff time is spent answering outreach questions by email, writing and publishing articles.

Sustainable Practices Case Study Database

NCS is building a case studies database that will be available on our web site for free once fully developed. Our goal is to make case studies to all people interested in living life more sustainably.

Consider supporting this project financially.  If you have found an interesting case study, please contact us.

Outreach Action Network

Join our Action Network.

  • Bring Natural Capitalism to your company, community or country. Sponsor an event in your area or attend an event already happening near you. Check out the NCS Events Calendar for more information on events already scheduled or contact us today to discuss pricing and availability.

  • Community Service.  Get active in your community.  Read What Can I Do? and other articles on Hunter's reading list and share them.

  • Make a donation to support this project. Contributions to this project are spent on solar-powered web hosting and domain registration fees, as well as professional development for our web and communications personnel.

  • Help us expand our media network. If you know of a venue to share Natural Capitalism and our projects (a web site, radio, television, magazine, newspaper, journal, book, university, business, government/municipality, conference, etc.) please contact us.

  • Keep us informed.  Email us what your group is doing to help sustain the planet. Potential collaborators, clients, and friends welcome.

  • Share Natural Capitalism.  Read the book, then give it away. Click here to send us an email and join our electronic mailing list, then forward this site on to your friends and family. No trees are destroyed sending you our publications. A significant number of electrons, however, are terribly inconvenienced.
