Christopher Juniper
Mr. Juniper has been an innovator in
sustainable economic and business development practices and policies
for twenty-three years. A sustainability consultant to businesses and
governments since 1997, he has served in leadership positions for
organizations such as the Portland Development Commission (Oregon),
Rocky Mountain Institute, Sustainability Leadership Institute,
Asia-Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Production and Consumption,
CORE Colorado, Natural Capitalism Solutions and most recently the
Turtledove Alliance (a start-up business linking consumers with
sustainable products and services).
He has developed or co-developed
numerous innovative sustainability tools for organizations and
communities, including the LASER Guide to Community Development, the
Climate Protection Manual for Cities, the Sustainable Economic
Development Planning system, the Sustainability Management Helix, and
the Sustainability Performance Life-cycle Management System.
Since 2003 he has served the renowned
sustainability program of the Fort Carson installation of the U.S. Army
as a sustainability planner. Current duties include leading the
sustainability training, sustainability partnerships, sustainable
transportation planning and sustainable procurement efforts. He
represents Fort Carson to the Federal Network for Sustainability, the
Colorado Springs Utilities’ Technical Advisory Group, and the
Sustainable Funding Committee of the City of Colorado Springs. Other
clients have included Clif Bar, Agilent Technologies, Bulmers, the City
of Boulder, the State of Washington, the Chicago Manufacturing Center,
Alegent Health Systems, and PortionPac Chemical Corp.
He is an international speaker
including (in 2007-8) presentations for the United Nations
Environmental and Social Commission for the Asia-Pacific Region
(ESCAP), the Third International Life-cycle Management Conference, and
the Federal Environmental Symposiums sponsored by the Office of the
Federal Environmental Executive of the White House.
His academic training included The
Colorado College (B.A. Economics) and advanced studies at Colorado
State University focused on environmental economics and land-use
planning. He continues to provide numerous academic guest lectures and
serves on masters’ level thesis/project committees.
His experience includes five
years as college-level economics instructor (currently a visiting
professor for Colorado College for Sustainable Economics courses),
board and leadership positions for several non-profits and three
successful business start-ups. He is a national speaker and author of
articles on sustainable business strategies, sustainable economic
development and sustainable economics. He is currently focused on
refinement and implementation of his new whole-system model for
Sustainable Economic Development Planning, and implementing
sustainability at the Fort Carson Mountain Post, a rapidly expanding
U.S. Army installation in Colorado Springs, CO. He is also a
founding board member of the Vermont-based Sustainability Leadership
Institute and serves on the Board of Directors of CORE, a Colorado
government economic development partner promoting sustainable business
practices.
