Requirements & How to Apply
Business Development Internship
Hunter Lovins and our team are currently developing tools to assist business and industry to develop sustainable practices and make the transition towards becoming sustainable organizations. NCS’ Business Development interns will be involved in research and analysis of existing management tools, techniques and stories of actual practice of organizations pursuing sustainability. In addition, these interns will be involved in the development of new tools and strategies to support this work.
Projects will range for business development internships. Past /Current projects interns have worked on include: development of business sustainability stories, development of sustainability strategy and analysis tools, creation of marketing plans for specific business development projects, identification of new business opportunities
Interns will have the opportunity to participate in local conferences, industry events, staff meetings, company outings and networking opportunities. Day to day responsibilities will vary.
Students will be given a reading list prior to start of internship. First day orientation will explain the mission of the organization and current projects. This will include staff introductions, project explanations and necessary computer training.
Students are expected to meet with their supervisor on a weekly basis to discuss project progress. All interns will meet together at set times to present their projects, identifying obstacles and case studies and brainstorm new solutions.
At the end of the internship period both supervisor and intern are expected to fill out an evaluation.
Qualifications: Interns for this project will preferably possess a background in or knowledge of the principles of Natural Capitalism and sustainable development and have experience in business operations or be enrolled in an MBA or business management degree.

Technical Development Internship
Hunter Lovins and her team are currently developing tools to assist business and industry to develop sustainable practices and make the transition towards becoming sustainable organizations. NCS’ Technical Development interns will assist in office transferring from PC to MAC platforms, rebuilding servers, encrypting wireless, networking and database building. Interns for this project will preferably possess a background with MAC and Windows platforms and have experience in databases.
Interns have the opportunity to participate in industry events, staff meetings, company outings and networking opportunities. Day to day responsibilities will vary. Ability to work in the evening is preferable.
Students are expected to meet with their supervisor on a weekly basis to discuss project progress. All interns will meet together at set times to present their projects, identifying obstacles and case studies and brainstorm new solutions.
At the end of the internship period both supervisor and intern are expected to fill out an evaluation.

To further this work NCS interns will be involved in research and analysis of existing tools and stories of how successful organizations address climate protection. In addition these interns will assist in the development of new material to support both businesses and local governments.
Projects will range for the Climate Protection Internship. Past/current projects interns have worked on include: research and development of material for the Climate Protection Manual for Cities, market research, analysis and development of material for the Climate Protection Manual for Small Businesses, creation of new technical tools for use in climate

Selection Process
All NCS intern applicants should be self-motivated, hard working individuals.
Successful interns will be familiar with the principles of Natural Capitalism and sustainability. Basic literacy in PowerPoint, Microsoft Office and other commonly used business software is required. Candidates must demonstrate research skills including internet, journal and publication research along with a high standard of writing and communication skills.

A writing sample is also required. Preference is given to applicants who select an internship topic area from above and write a 1000-word essay highlighting what you think are the major issues in this area are and how you would work towards addressing these issues.
If you choose to not write an essay specific to our internships, applicants are encouraged to
submit a sample that demonstrates not only their writing ability, but also thorough research and accurate citations.
NCS has internships available year-round. (Space is limited in the
